Carried. Correction on May 7th minutes, 11 applications were received
for the Chief of Police position with four applicants called for interviews.

| Shelter
House: |
An update
on the expenses and revenues on the Shelter House was given by Ron
Hanson. The Shelter House |
| committee
hopes to
have the project completed in 3 weeks. The committee also voiced their
opinion on renting the Shelter House, stating that when the project
was originally created, it was a place for people to come together
for free not for the City to charge rent. The committee suggested
that interested parties pay a deposit to insure the safe keeping of
the building. The Shelter House discussion was tabled to the May 26th
meeting. |
| Water/Sewer/Streets: |
Brad
Cutler from MIDAS presented the GIS Service program to the Council.
GIS is a program available |
| to
help map the City’s water utilities, storm and sanitary sewer
systems. The Council agreed that it is time to update the City maps.
Mr. Cutler is going to get more information ready for the Council
and come back to another meeting. The City Hall contacted Hawkeye
Collection Agency from Sioux City, to inquire about collecting problem
water utility accounts. The City has to provide the name, address,
phone number, and if available social security number and current
employer. The collection agency gets 25% of the money collected and
40% if they have to be taken to small claims court. Motion was made
by Meyer and seconded by DeVore to hire Hawkeye Collection Agency
to collect our delinquent problem utility accounts with a courtesy
letter sent out to give the customer notice with a deadline of July
1st. Roll call: Ayes: Bachman, Juilfs, Meyer, DeVore and Loots Nays:
None. Motion Carried. Councilman DeVore updated the rest of the Council
on the condition of the City maintenance shed. The Council is going
to get estimates for a new maintenance building 40X60 to see what
it might cost if they decided to build a new shed. |
| Fire
Department: |
A
motion was made by Meyer and seconded by Loots to approve Dan Rosa
as Acting Fire Chief, Bruce Ewing as Assistant |

Doug Hepperle as Captain, Merissa Ewing as Treasurer and Greg Marquart
as Lieutenant. Roll call: Ayes: Bachman, Juilfs, Meyer, DeVore and
Loots Nays: None. Motion Carried. |
| Cemetery/Parks: |
Loots
discussed the Go Green Class from the High school. She gave a list
of projects that needed to be done throughout |
| town.
The Class will be helping with a few of the projects; they will be
repainting the Knight Train and water sealing the picnic tables at
the Shelter House. Loots also discussed where to plant the trees from
the Trees Please Grant. The Council also discussed decorations at
the Cemetery. |

Building: |
City
Hall is to look into a time frame where there is nothing booked for
2 weeks in order to redo the bathrooms. |
| Summer
Rec.: |
Council would like a thank you note written
to Carrie Melohn for her coordination with the soccer program. |
| Nuisance
Abatement: |
Council
discussed nuisances around town and turned a complaint over to Chief
Buenting. |
| Garbage: |
The discussion on garbage billing was
tabled until the next regular council meeting June 9th. |
| City
Hall |

A motion was made by Bachman and seconded by Juilfs to approve Casey’s
Cigarette Permit. |
| Roll
call: Ayes: Bachman, Juilfs, Meyer, DeVore and Loots Nays: None. Motion
Carried. The Council reviewed the FY 2009 Budget Amendment and will
approve it on May 26th at the Public Hearing. The Council agreed to
keep the monthly meetings on the second Tuesday of the month. The
next meeting the Council will amend the ordinance for the monthly
meetings. The Council reviewed the individual department bank accounts
and tabled the item until the July 14th meeting. The council discussed
two utility accounts. |
