REGULAR CITY COUNCIL MEETING
MINUTES
June 9 , 2009
Council meeting called to order at 7:01 P.M. by Mayor Gene Becker
Roll Call: S Juilfs, C Loots, C. Meyer, and R Bachman, Dan Devore via Telephone at 7:04
MAYOR AND COUNCIL COMMENTS: Meyer asked if there are any expenses that were going to be paid half this fiscal year and half next
fiscal year. Loots stated that two orders where placed one from Utah and one from North Carolina for the Veterans Memorial Park bricks. DeVore was asked what the status was on the Summer Rec. Pop can removal and was also informed that two volunteers have requested to help with the removal.
APPROVAL OF AGENDA: Meyer made a motion, second by Loots to approve the Agenda. Roll call: Ayes: Bachman,
Juilfs, Meyer, DeVore and Loots Nays: None. Motion Carried.
CONSENT AGENDA: Juilfs made a motion, second by Bachman to approve the Consent Agenda: Financials, Minutes, Requests, Reports
and Bill List. Roll call: Ayes: Bachman, Juilfs, Meyer, DeVore and Loots Nays: None. Motion Carried.
COMMITTEE REPORTS  
Shelter House: The Pomeroy Men’s Club plans to have a fundraiser August 29th serving brats and beer with live entertainment from
the Jacob Lee Band. The Council suggested that the Club meet with Chief Gerdes about the event. Motion was made by Meyer, seconded by Loots to approve what the Pomeroy Men’s Club is going to do as a fundraiser as long as it’s legal on August 29th. Roll call: Ayes: Bachman, Juilfs, Meyer, DeVore and Loots Nays: None. Motion Carried.
Water/Sewer/Streets: An update on the Lagoon project was given by the Mayor. Letters were mailed out for delinquent

Water meter replacement plan was tabled to the next meeting. Two bids for the Maintenance Shed were accepted by the council. One was from Morton Building from Jefferson with a bid of $70,533.00; the second bid was from Countrywide Construction Co. from Guthrie Center for $59,442.00. The Council discussed the hours and duties of the maintenance dept. because of the leave due to injury of the department head.
Amending Ordinance #205 and #206: A motion was made by Meyer, seconded by DeVore, to approve
Ordinance #205, amending the regular monthly meetings to the 2nd Tuesday of each month effective upon publication. Roll call: Ayes: Bachman, Juilfs, Meyer, DeVore and Loots Nays: None. Motion Carried. Ordinance #206 was tabled until the next Council meeting. Dan DeVore left the meeting at this time 9:15P.M. After review a motion was made by Loots and seconded by Juilfs to cancel the monthly sewer contract with Kuehl and Payer. Roll call: Ayes: Bachman, Juilfs, Meyer and Loots Nays: None. Motion Carried.
Community Building: The Council was informed that the only break in renting was from August 3rd to the 17th,
and that that would be the time time to have the bathrooms redone.
Garbage: The discussion on garbage billing was tabled until the next regular council meeting.
Nuisance Abatement: Council discussed nuisances around town and turned a complaint over to Chief Buenting.

City Hall A motion was made by Meyer seconded by Loots to approve the renewal of Casey’s beer license. Roll call:
Ayes: Bachman, Juilfs, Meyer and Loots Nays: None. Motion Carried. Motion was made by Meyer seconded by Loots to approve Byron’s street dance on July 11th on the condition he talks to the Police Chief about area containment. After discussion a motion was made by Loots seconded by Juilfs to change the camping rates to $15.00 a night or $80.00 a week. Roll call: Ayes: Bachman, Juilfs, Meyer and Loots Nays: None. Motion Carried.
Maintenance Shed Bid: A motion was made to accept the bid from Countrywide Construction Co. of Guthrie Center Iowa
for $59,442 on the condition that all legal requirements for bidding process are met. Roll call: Ayes: Bachman, Juilfs, Meyer and Loots Nays: None. Motion Carried.
